Abstract Description: When it comes to environmental justice, most corporations are in a similar and uncomfortable position, which is a juxtaposition of fear of the unknown and a commitment to finding solutions. This presentation will share best practices and insight on evolving agency and public expectations which is critical for success in this new space. This session will delve into: 1) the trends in state and federal agency policy. Not all states have enacted Environmental Justice laws. Yet, the federal government is requiring environmental justice to be included in federal permits and funding programs. How do companies manage this? 2) community expectations. Communities expect they will be consulted and that their concerns will be incorporated into the final product. How does business do that? 3) best practices in achieving environmental justice goals. What works and what doesn’t. And, 3) incorporating environmental justice practices in operational strategies with an emphasis on permitting and operations. How to make environmental justice integral to your work. By digging into the weeds on both the challenges and successes of corporate adoption of environmental justice policies and procedures, attendees will leave with a better understanding of environmental justice principles and how to implement them in their daily operations.
